Replacement Window Tax Credit
The US Department of Energy has put in place a $1,500 tax credit for those who purchase an energy efficient product or renewable energy system for your home. This is part of the Energy Star incentive to help home owners reduce the amount of energy used in their homes. Western Construction’s Gorell windows qualify for the Energy Star tax credit which means you can save more than just the environment by replacing your old windows with Gorell’s vinyl windows.
What is Included in the Tax Credit?
For Gorell window replacement, you can expect the following tax credits, as reported by the US Department of Energy:
- Tax Credit: 30% of cost up to $1,500
- Expires: December 31, 2010
- Details: Must be an existing home & your principal residence. New construction and rentals do not qualify.
Benefiting from Energy Star
ENERGY STAR is a U.S. government program—administered by the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency with the cooperation of manufacturers—that’s designed to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels through the education of consumers.
Not all windows and doors will qualify for the Energy Star tax credit. Windows and doors must be tested by an independent laboratory through the NFRC program and meet specific, predetermined U-value ratings. Gorell windows have been tested and passed with flying colors. In fact, Gorell windows have won the Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award four times in a row.
Applying for the Tax Credit
There are two pieces of documentation you will need to fill out and keep in order to obtain your tax credit on Gorell vinyl window replacement services. You will need to keep your Western Construction certification statement for your records as well as Form 5695. You will need to keep this statement to file with your 2010 income taxes. If you have already had your windows replaced in 2009, you will need to submit the certification statement as well as 2009 IRS Form 5695 with your 2009 taxes (by April 15 2010).
Additional Saving Incentives
Keep in mind that the 2010 tax credit is not the only way to save when it comes to Gorell windows. You will also be saving every year on your heating and cooling costs. In fact, with Gorell you will save up to 46% of your fuel costs. This is because Gorell windows reflect the outside temperature away from the windows. Furthermore, because Gorell windows are custom made to fit all window openings, there are no cold drafts coming in.
Consider how much 46% will benefit you after 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. One customer writes “last July my energy bill was well over $200.00 and this past July it was only $133.00.” If you consider these savings every month, the windows will most certainly pay for themselves after a certain amount of years.
